The International Roots of Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot: A Closer Look – Tempo Talk

The renowned actress Gal Gadot, famous for her role as Wonder Woman, is set to appear at the 2018 Oscars as a presenter, despite her movie’s incredible success not receiving any nominations. Gadot has quickly risen to become one of Hollywood’s most celebrated rising stars, with plenty of recognition for her feminist superhero portrayal. She has earned various accolades, including the National Board of Review’s Spotlight Award and even a nomination for a Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award. Interestingly, before becoming an actress, Gadot served in the Israeli army as a soldier for two years.

JON KOPALOFF/FILMMAGIC reported that the famous person, hailing from Petah Tikva, Israel, was obliged to enlist in the military at the age of 20. It is important to acknowledge that military duty is mandatory for all Israeli citizens who are above 18 years old regardless of their gender.

As per an interview with Fashion magazine in 2015, the actress revealed that her stint in the army was a valuable experience as it gave her the necessary training for her Hollywood career. Before enlisting in the military, Gadot had won the coveted Miss Israel title in 2004 when she was just 18 years old and also represented her country in the Miss Universe pageant held in Ecuador. After her reign, Gadot worked as a combat instructor in the army.

Following two years of service in the military, the famous personality decided to pursue a degree in law and international relations at IDC Herzliya college. During her time studying law, a casting director presented her with an opportunity to audition for the role of a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace. Initially hesitant, Gadot turned down the offer as she believed her serious and intellectual personality did not align with that of an actress. Additionally, the script was entirely in English, which made her feel uneasy, despite being proficient in the language.

Even though she didn’t get the part she originally tried out for, her passion for acting was ignited and she eventually landed a role on an Israeli TV show. Despite only finishing one year of school, she caught the attention of the same casting director who turned her down for the Bond movie and was given the chance to play Gisele in Fast & Furious, marking her first film role. She moved to the United States to pursue acting full-time and quickly made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. The rest is history, as they say.

Gal Gadot, who played the main character in the hit movie Wonder Woman, resides in Los Angeles with her spouse Yaron Versano and their two adorable children, Maya and Alma.
